Counseling for Individuals Dallas and Fort Worth

At Noyau Wellness

our therapists strive to create an inviting and comfortable atmosphere where you feel safe to open yourself up and share your private thoughts and emotions.

We all deal with a great many adversities, whether it be the pain of losing a loved one, never feeling satisfied with ourselves, a plaguing worry, or a persisting sense of sadness, and at some point, we can all benefit from having a third-party help process these and other feelings.

When that time strikes in your life,

seeking individual counseling from an educated and trained professional can help you return to that place of security and fulfillment.

How to Prepare

When first deciding to see a therapist, you may want to take a moment and write down a few of the issues that have been troubling you. It can be difficult to recall everything that has led you to seek therapy when you are in session, and the more you share with your therapist the more effective counseling will be.

As you know, some days are better than others. It may be that your appointment occurs on one of the good days, and recalling the thoughts and emotions from the bad day is difficult.

Keep this habit of writing down things you want to discuss in therapy throughout the counseling process. Your therapist will likely give you homework assignments in between sessions. Completing these assignments is an essential piece of your treatment plan.

Lasting change does not take place only during that one hour a week in session. Real change happens when you take what you are discovering in session and apply it to your everyday life. The most important variable in the success of counseling is your commitment to change and the work you do in between sessions.

What to Expect

We ask you to arrive 10-15 minutes early to review the new client paperwork. Please read these documents carefully as they include the limitations of confidentiality, the counseling process, and cancellation and billing policies. This paperwork will be on a clipboard in the waiting room for you to complete at your convenience.

The first counseling session is unique. It will likely resemble an interview where your therapist asks questions aimed at gathering a detailed background, family history, your subjective world view, and an understanding of the events and emotions that led you to seek counseling.

Your therapist will discuss what you want to accomplish through therapy and what goals you have for yourself. Don’t worry if you don’t know what your goals are or if you aren’t completely sure of what you want from counseling. You and your therapist will work collaboratively to identify these goals and develop a strategy for achieving them.

The therapist will likely assign you homework at the end of each session (especially in the beginning of the therapeutic process). Homework may include reading assignments, journal topics, daily mood logs, physical exercise, etc. Remember, completing these assignments is an important aspect in creating long-lasting life changes. Bring these assignments to your next scheduled appointment so that you and the therapist may review them together.

We suggest clients make their next appointment before leaving, as our therapists are in high demand and are often booked. If there are a particular day and time that is best for you, talk with your therapist about setting up a standing appointment for each week. Remember, we require 24 hours notice for cancellations.

Every person deserves to feel valued and successful. Fulfillment is not something that happens to us, but rather something we make happen. Learning to feel genuine appreciation for yourself without fear, doubt, or guilt allows you feel that sense of fulfillment.

Often we put off taking care of ourselves for a multitude of reasons. Understanding the importance and necessity of self-care, and then taking the time to treat ourselves well, allows us to see through the negativity we are often surrounded by to an exciting and optimistic future.
