Often we feel we are the only person in the world who is experiencing our unique set of problems. We feel different and ashamed, thinking if anyone knew what we were going through, we would be outcast. Believing we are alone can make healing that much more difficult. However because of that, knowing that we are not alone, others share in our pain and have been experiencing similar difficulties, we can draw strength from one another.
In a small group setting individuals come together to grow and learn from each other. A small group allows for the opportunity to openly share the worries, hurts, and fears we have in a supportive environment with other individuals who truly understand what we are feeling because they too have been enduring similar struggles.
Noyau Wellness Center offers small-group counseling on the following issues

How to Prepare
If you are interested in becoming part of a small group the first step is contacting Noyau Wellness and letting them know which group in which you are interested. You will then meet with the group’s facilitating therapist for an intake to determine if you would benefit from the group or if individual sessions would provide you the most success.
Due to the popularity of our group sessions you may be placed on a waiting list until a spot opens up. The integrity of the small group is of high priority to us, therefore we have a maximum of 6 group members at a time.
Preparing for a group session is similar to the preparation you would do when seeking individual counseling. Coming to group with an open mind to view the world from various perspectives as well as completing homework assignments are keys to a fulfilling experience. Remember to stay cognizant of the other group members and stay within the boundaries established by the group to show respect for fellow members.
What to Expect
Once you have met with the group facilitator and it has been determined the group setting would offer you the most benefit, you will be placed on the group waiting list. If space is available we will place you in the group schedule and you may begin attending sessions at the next appointed time. In addition to your group session we ask that you meet individually with the group facilitator on a monthly basis for an individual counseling session. It has been our experience that individual sessions play an important role in the success of each group member and group progression overall. However, if the group is currently full we may suggest beginning individual sessions until a space opens up.
Your group facilitator will go over various aspects of the group prior to your attending such as topics covered, material used, previous homework assignments, group boundaries and expectations, and limitations to confidentiality. You will be given an opportunity to discuss questions and concerns with the facilitator before your first group session and we encourage you to continue with that line of communication should you have questions in the future.
During the session new members introduce themselves and share as much as they are comfortable with on what drew them to the group. You may not feel comfortable enough to open up during your first few sessions and this is a normal response to a new situation. When you feel ready, your thoughts and feelings are a welcome addition to the group.
Small groups emit an energy and comfort during the session that is unmatched by other types of therapy. Learning from one another has a powerful and profound impact on the way we view the world and our place in it. The greatest benefit from small group counseling is the sense of being understood by others and knowing our problems are not as unresolvable as they may have felt because we are allowed to witness the change and growth in those around us. Small group dynamics organically emerge over time spent together, allowing us a safe and secure place to try out new ways of thinking and behaving before we venture back into our personal lives and make the changes we have been working towards. Having successfully mastered techniques in a small group, we are given a feeling of confidence we can utilize outside of group increasing the possibility of life long change.
